Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve
Did you know students in preschool and transitional kindergarten programs who have been exposed to important mathematical concepts such as operating on whole numbers and identifying and describing shapes, will be better prepared for kindergarten mathematics and for later learning?
In fact, my son who attends kindergarten in California was accessed on his second day back on concepts such as: upper and lower case letters, letter sounds, numbers 1 through 30, colors and shapes (2D and 3D).
Since my son was fortunate enough to attend preschool since 2.5 years old, the test was fairly easy him. However, there was one part that he struggled with and that was 3D shapes.
We want our kids to be prepared for kindergarten. Unfortunately, not every child can attend preschool for various reasons. We want to ensure our curriculum includes math concepts that will be taught in kindergarten. Therefore, we’ve included, identifying and describing two and three dimensional shapes so that your child will have the confidence needed for his or her first day of school.
